BYD Atto 3 Used Car Export Guide (2026)

BYD Atto 3: Used Export Guide — Specs, Model Years, Markets, Price Bands

UsedAutoX model guide for overseas importers, dealers and fleet buyers. Trade terms: EXW / FOB only. Destination duties and clearance are always handled with your own customs broker — regulations change.

Model Overview

Here is the first thing to explain to your own customers: the Atto 3 does not exist in China. The car is the Yuan Plus (元PLUS) domestically, and BYD gave it the export name Atto 3, a nod to the attosecond, the shortest measured unit of time. Two names, one car. Latin America kept the Yuan Plus badge on imported units, so a Chilean buyer may ask for “Yuan Plus” while an Israeli distributor says “Atto 3”. Same VIN logic, same parts.

It is a compact electric SUV (model code SC2E) on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, front-wheel drive with a 150 kW / 310 Nm motor, and some markets detune the entry version to 100 kW. Two Blade LFP packs: 49.92 kWh (430 km CLTC / 345 km WLTP) and 60.48 kWh (510 km CLTC / 420 km WLTP). Thailand received its own 50.25 kWh variant from 2024. 0-100 km/h takes 7.3 s on the big pack, 7.9 s on the small one.

Dimensions: 4,455 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, 1,615 mm tall, 2,720 mm wheelbase, 440-litre boot. Kerb weight runs 1,615-1,750 kg by pack. AC charging is 7 kW standard or 11 kW optional; DC input is modest at 70 kW on the small pack and 80-88 kW on the large one. The underrated trick: 3.6 kW V2L external discharge, which powers appliances, tools or a street food fridge straight from the car. In markets with unreliable grids, that feature closes deals on its own.

Scale check: BYD built the millionth Atto 3 in June 2025, the car took five stars in Euro NCAP 2022 with a 91% adult-occupant score, and it ended 2023 as Israel’s best-selling vehicle of any kind. This is not a niche import. It is the single most liquid used Chinese EV in many markets.

Year-by-Year: What Changed

August 2021 / February 2022. Showcased at the Chengdu Auto Show in August 2021; China sales began February 2022. First export units followed through late 2022. Early cars: 12.8-inch screen, Chaowang or Atlas-brand tyres depending on batch.

September 2023 — Champion Edition (China). Price cuts plus heated and ventilated seats and privacy glass on higher trims. Champion-edition stock has been the backbone of export supply since.

January 2024 — model year 2024. The “Build Your Dreams” tailgate badge became a plain “BYD” badge, some markets got the 15.6-inch screen in place of the 12.8-inch unit, and the C-pillar went gloss black. Tyres switched to Continental on later batches after owner feedback (batch-dependent; check the car).

September 2024 — the recall you must check. BYD recalled 96,714 Dolphin and Yuan Plus vehicles in China over the electric power steering column (CEPS) controller, a fire risk, on cars built 24 November 2022 to 4 December 2023; dealers fit insulation pads. That build window covers most 2023 export cars. Before you commit to any 2023 unit, get the VIN and confirm the recall work is done.

January 2025 — model year 2025. New wheel designs, a grey interior option, and a 750 kg towing rating in Australia. Cosmetically near-identical to the 2024 car; even dealers struggle to tell them apart without the VIN.

2025-2026 — the Evo generation. China’s Yuan Plus gained BYD’s God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100) driver-assistance hardware, 29 sensors, and new “Chinese knot” taillights. The European Atto 3 Evo followed in early 2026 with a substantially reworked car: 800V platform, 74.8 kWh pack, 220 kW DC charging (10-80% in about 25 minutes), RWD and AWD options, a five-link rear axle, and a 101-litre frunk. Reports of the next generation point to flash charging and up to 630 km CLTC.

Which year to buy. 2023 60.48 kWh Extended Range is the volume sweet spot: cheapest per kWh of battery, huge stock, and a known recall list you can verify. Just make the recall check a condition of purchase. The 49.92 kWh small-pack car only makes sense at a clear discount, because 345 km WLTP narrows your resale pool. If your market has 150 kW+ chargers and margins allow, hold out for an Evo car — otherwise the older 88 kW DC ceiling is fine for home-and-city duty.

Best Export Markets

Middle East. Israel made this car the country’s best-selling vehicle by the end of 2023, which means Gulf-area buyers already recognise the badge. UAE and Saudi demand skews white and silver, high-spec, LHD, a natural fit for China stock. Heat management is fine on the liquid-cooled Blade pack, but check cabin AC and coolant service at inspection. Confirm EV import and registration rules with your local customs broker — regulations change.

Russian-speaking markets. Parallel import carries the supply since BYD’s official exit from the Russian passenger market in 2022 (confirm current status). LHD matches. Winter cuts usable range hard on the small pack, so Russian buyers should get the 60.48 kWh version or accept winter charging stops. EAEU certification and the utilization fee (утилизационный сбор) shape landed cost: confirm with your local customs broker — regulations change.

Southeast Asia. BYD assembles EVs at Rayong in Thailand since 2024, so Thai-spec right-hand-drive stock exists alongside UK/Australian units. Singapore named the Atto 3 its best-selling car in early 2024. Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand are RHD markets; Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and the Philippines are LHD. Outside the capitals, charging is thin; the V2L outlet and home charging carry the pitch. Confirm vehicle-age limits with your local customs broker — regulations change.

Latin America. Sold here under the Yuan Plus name. All LHD. Brazil’s return of EV import tariffs in steps through 2026 changes the landed-cost math month by month (confirm with your local customs broker — regulations change). Chile and Uruguay remain the practical used-EV entry points; Mexico’s used-car import rules are restrictive, so broker-confirm first.

Africa. Right-hand-drive markets (South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria) can take UK/Australian/Thai stock; Egypt and Morocco take LHD China units. Where the grid is unreliable, pitch the V2L function honestly: a car that can power a shop freezer overnight sells itself in a blackout. For pure-EV economics, confirm charging reality on the ground before promising range. Confirm with your local customs broker — regulations change.

Common Problems & What to Check

  • The CEPS recall first. Any car built 24 Nov 2022 – 4 Dec 2023 needs the steering-column insulation remedy confirmed as completed. We check this by VIN before quoting.
  • 12V battery drain. A recurring BYD trait on cars that sit. Ask for the 12V battery’s build date and whether it has been replaced.
  • DC charging speed ceiling. 70-88 kW DC is normal on pre-Evo cars. Buyers who read brochure numbers for the Evo will complain; set expectations in your listing.
  • Interior wear. The piano-black centre console and the “gym-inspired” trim collect scratches; the door pockets even carry real guitar strings as a design cue (widely documented; check listing photos).
  • Software conversion. China-market cars need proper export conversion for language and maps. Cracked firmware blocks OTA updates — walk away from those units.
  • Tyre batches. Early cars wore Chaowang/Atlas tyres, later batches Continentals (batch-dependent). Budget new rubber if the car arrives on the budget brands.
  • Flood and corrosion. Check charge port pins, carpets and tailgate cavities, especially on coastal-province cars.

Export Documentation Notes

Standard set: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, plus the Chinese registration certificate (机动车登记证书) proving first-registration date.

EV-specific: carriers require the traction battery’s MSDS and the UN38.3 test summary. Most lines also impose a low state of charge, commonly around 30%, so expect a partly charged car at delivery and tell your customer beforehand. Confirm the exact SoC limit with your carrier before loading.

The 180-day rule: cars first registered more than 180 days before export run through the standard used-car channel under the policy effective November 2025. Younger units need the manufacturer’s after-sales service confirmation letter (《售后维修服务确认书》). Atto 3 used stock is mostly 2022-2024 cars, comfortably past 180 days.

Indicative Price Bands

Indicative ranges, not verified per-unitAnchored to retrieved China-market data: Autohome lists the 2023 Champion Edition 430 km entry version at a used level of ¥63,000-79,800, roughly USD 8,700-11,100 at ~7.2 RMB/USD. Larger-pack and newer cars price above that anchor. Grade 4.0+ = export-grade near-new condition: light use, no structural repairs, high battery SoH.

Model year Grade 4.0+ export stock, USD (FOB China port equivalent)
2022 9,500 – 13,500
2023 10,500 – 15,000
2024 12,000 – 17,000
2025 14,000 – 19,500
2026 Evo (limited stock) 18,500 – 24,500

FAQ

Q: Is Atto 3 the same car as Yuan Plus? A: Yes. Export name and China name for one compact electric SUV. Latin American units may carry the Yuan Plus badge; documents may show either name.

Q: Which pack should I import, 49.92 or 60.48 kWh? A: 60.48 kWh unless the price gap is small. 420 km WLTP keeps the resale pool wide; 345 km limits you to city-duty buyers.

Q: I heard about a steering recall — is it a deal-breaker? A: No. It is a known fix (insulation pads on the power-steering column controller) for cars built Nov 2022 – Dec 2023. We verify completion by VIN before shipping.

Q: Can it charge fast? A: Pre-Evo cars peak at 70-88 kW DC. Fine for home-plus-city use; wrong car for customers who live on highway chargers. The 2026 Evo changes that with 220 kW, but stock is limited.

Q: Does the V2L outlet really matter? A: In markets with grid instability, yes. The 3.6 kW external socket runs appliances directly from the car. We demo it on video before shipment.

Q: What battery documents does shipping require? A: MSDS plus UN38.3 test summary, with state of charge reduced to the carrier’s limit (commonly around 30%). We handle the set.

Q: Which years hold value best? A: 2023-2024 60.48 kWh cars. They are the volume cars with the widest buyer recognition, from Israel to Singapore.

Q: How do you quote? A: Per unit after inspection, on EXW or FOB terms. Send the destination port and quantity; we reply with stock options and a live video inspection.
